Method to the madness:
Weigh all ingredients together and mix thoroughly.
Leave to absorb all the liquids overnight.
Spoon into a 1lb pudding basin and press the mixture down with the back of a spoon and then place the lid on securely.
To steam, put the pudding in the top of a steamer filled with simmering water, cover with a lid and steam for 6 hours, topping up the water as necessary.
To boil the pudding, put a metal jam jar lid into the base of a large pan. Carefully place the pudding on top and ensure it is covered ½ way with simmering water.
Place the lid on the pan and allow to simmer for 5 hours. Top up the water as necessary.
