Autumn in Cornwall

Written by Nat Louis

Visiting Cornwall in autumn offers a unique charm, blending quiet beauty with a sense of escape. The landscape, famous for its rugged coastlines, transforms into a palette of muted tones as the season shifts. Crisp air replaces the summer warmth, but the crowds have dissipated, leaving the coastline more serene, and it feels as though the county is waiting to be rediscovered.

Upon arriving at our coastal outpost, a first thought is the space, there’s a tranquillity that contrasts the atmosphere of summer. There's a certain rhythm that invites quiet contemplation as Atlantic swells crash against the cliffs below and the winds rustle across the meadows. Walking the coast path is an invigorating experience, blowing out cobwebs and boosting your mood, followed by coffee and a sweet treat as you warm yourself by the fire.

Bedruthan prides itself of being the friendliest of dog-friendly places, and Cornwall is no different. Nearly all beaches are dog-friendly during the Autumn and Winter, while local establishments are always excited to meet your four-legged friend. Once you've booked your stay, we'll make sure your room is kitted out with a dog bed, towels for sandy paws and bowls.

The changeable weather from misty mornings, bright winter sun and brief bursts of rain add to the excitement of a break by the coast. Wrapping up warm to explore nearby quaint fishing village like Padstow, Port Isaac and St Ives feels more intimate without the usual tourist rush, taking breaks in local pubs and coffee shops to sample local beers, cider and of course, a Cornish pasty.

Autumn in Cornwall instils a slower pace, the Cornish phrase 'do it drecktly' springs to mind, as you take a moment to appreciate the little moments in a day; an early morning dog walk across the sand, the sound of leaves underfoot, or watching surfers brave the chilly waves.
