Newquay Fish Festival
16 September, 2016at 11:00 am - 18 September, 2016at 5:00 pm
Newquay Fish Festival is one of the highlights of the foodie calendar focusing on the delicious seafood local fishermen catch daily.
Festivalgoers will be able to witness numerous fishing demonstrations from the region’s top chefs, such as BBC MasterChef Winner, James Nathan of the Green Room Restaurant at Retallack Resort and Spa, Jim Whatcott of the Carnmarth Hotel and Christopher Archambault of the Headland Hotel. These will be followed by a stunning performance from Oll en Gwella choir, the Blue Reef Rockpool Roadshow, a demo by the Old Ale House in Truro, before Friday comes to a sensational crescendo with the Last Night of the Proms at 7pm. This is a one night spectacle, during which the Mount Charles Band is set to bring all of the pomp of the Royal Albert Hall to the Harbour. BBC Radio Cornwall will also be broadcasting live from the Festival in the afternoon.
The practical cookery demonstrations by local chefs are undoubtedly the highlight of the festival, with hotels and restaurants promoting local fresh fish and shellfish and locally available produce. In addition to the purely ‘fish’ related elements, the festival has a number of trade stands promoting Cornish produce and crafts, together with a hospitality area and a range of entertainment from local choirs and bands to a sandcastle competition and ‘fishy’ encounters organised by the town’s Blue Reef Aquarium.
