There are exciting things going on in Cornwall all year round, for a flavour of the events and festivals on offer, here are our top recommendations (please note entry to the below events are not included in the price of our two-night breaks):

Porthleven Food Festival

Porthleven Food Festival is three days of feasting, food, drink and music. Set in the picturesque harbour town of Porthleven, this is a lovely festival for all ages. During the day you can stroll through the stalls, popping in to the Chef’s theatre to watch the demonstrations, tasting street food from around the world whilst watching local bands and musicians. Then the town comes alive at night with the After Dark Parties with live music from artists such as Jonah’s Lift, Sound of the Sirens, Company B and the People’s String Foundation.

Fowey Festival of Arts and Literature

Fowey’s Festival of Arts and Literature is Cornwall’s main literary festival of the year featuring a diverse mix of authors, speakers, musicians and artists. Fowey is a beautiful place to visit at any time of year: tucked away on the Fowey Estuary with beautiful views of the valley and full of independent boutique shops, art galleries, cafes and restaurants. Being the home of Daphne du Maurier and Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch, Fowey is the perfect setting for the literary festival. This year’s line-up is yet to be announced, but previous talents have included Michael Morpurgo, Richard and Judy and a panel from Poldark.

Open Studios Cornwall

Open Studios is Cornwall’s largest free art event, celebrating contemporary art across the county. Hundreds of artists open their studio doors for one week offering the rare opportunity to explore behind the scenes of their work. Cornwall has long been renown for it’s creative and modern art scene, inspiring artists from a number of disciplines: ceramics, jewellery making, landscape painting, sculpture, printing making and more, and a huge variety of artists and makers take part in the event. It’s a great opportunity to take a tour of unseen Cornwall – through remote cottages and chapels, beach side studios and historic buildings, often far from the tourist trail. Take the chance to meet the artists behind the work, discuss their inspirations and shop for truly unique finds. The event also gives visitors the rare chance to attend one-on-one workshops with the artists and learn specialist techniques in a variety of disciplines from painting to jewellery making.

Great Estate Festival

Set in the beautiful grounds of Scorrier House, the festival offers an eclectic mix of exciting entertainment including a vintage fairground, camel racing, a woodland silent disco, secret gin garden, burlesque sessions, hot tubs, the Swamp Circus and even a Tattoo Parlour, alongside award-winning comedy, theatre, music and the arts. The musical acts are yet to be announced, but the Charlatans have recently been confirmed as the headline act.

Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival

The Falmouth Sea Shanty Festival has such a wonderful atmosphere. Falmouth, with it’s long standing maritime history and more recent university culture is an ever-changing coastal town full of wonderful shops, eateries and, most importantly, pubs and bars. Shanty singing over the festival weekend can be heard throughout the town: through the streets, on the harbour quays and in the public houses. It’s a great opportunity to hear a variety of shanty groups singing their traditional songs, watch local bands and musicians and even join in with a song. It’s a really unique festival not to be missed.

Looe Music Festival

Looe Music Festival is a really unusual festival taking place amongst the coastal town of Looe. Although you can buy tickets for the main music venues (one being on the beach itself), the whole town comes alive with live music in the cafes, bars, restaurants and even on the streets. People wander the town in fancy dress, food stalls line the harbour walls, and there is a really special atmosphere everywhere. The festival has attracted  a variety of international acts over the years, from The Stranglers, The Levellers, The Darkness, Reef, Seth Lakeman, Johnny Marr, The Proclaimers and the Fun Lovin’ Criminals.

Proms at the Minack Theatre

One of the ultimate Cornish experiences is a performance at the spectacular Minack Theatre overlooking the ocean. The Proms at the Minack is a wonderful opportunity to experience the magic of the Minack whilst listening to the talented Mount Charles Band. There is a great party atmosphere, where everyone brings flags, horns and whistles to create the traditional Proms ambience. We’d also recommend bringing plenty of warm and waterproof clothes, cushions, blankets, and even a picnic – for a little extra comfort.

Padstow Christmas Festival

A highlight of the Cornish Christmas calendar, Padstow Christmas Festival is the perfect opportunity to get in the festive spirit. There are plenty of tasters: from local cheeses and sausages, to fine gins and local ales to keep you warm, street food stalls serving Cornish and international dishes, chef demonstrations and lots of lovely stalls selling delicious food and drink from across the South West – perfect for presents or for your Christmas table. There is also entertainment throughout the streets of Padstow, beautiful Christmas lights and even a firework display.
