Top tips for a memorable multi-generational holiday

It can be easy to forget the things that matter most in life: such as making special memories with your loved ones. An extended family holiday is a great opportunity to have fun together and share new experiences. Elders will love seeing baby’s first beach walk and passing on little gems of advice to the juniors, whose innocent humour will provide hours of entertainment. And the grown-ups will have a rare opportunity for some quality time with their parents since having families of their own, and away from the stresses of daily life.

If you’re planning on getting away from it all with the whole family, read our top tips for ensuring it’s unforgettable for all, from baby to granny…

Comfort is key
Some families will jump at the chance to stay in shared accommodation to make the most of any precious time they have together, whereas others prefer their own mini sanctuaries to retreat to. Grandparents may wish for a bit of peace and quiet now and then, and so will parents who need undisturbed nap times (for themselves and their little ones!). Be sure to choose somewhere which can accommodate your family’s unique needs. At Bedruthan we have lots of accommodation choices, from sea view villas with shared living space and separate bedrooms, to sea view doubles.

Collect memories in the great outdoors
The beauty of nature doesn’t discriminate. The beach lends itself to any age, with wonders to be appreciated by young and old. Set your own pace during a spot of wild swimming, explore rock pools and cliff paths together, get tips from granddad on skimming stones or simply sit upon the sand with an ice-cream.

Plan activities and share ideas
Strike the right balance of activities, culture and relaxation to appeal to the whole group. Teenagers may not want to visit local tourist attractions, but the promise of a day’s surf lesson should tempt them! Share ideas on what to see and do daily, with a mix of exploring the local area and time out to rest. Whilst staying at Bedruthan families can simply stay within the realms of the hotel and still have a truly fulfilling time. The children will be delighted by the kids clubs and activities, teens can keep active with the games room and parents can make the most of complimentary kids club sessions with some grown-up only time on the sun terrace, or in our luxury spa. Although the essence of your break is about togetherness, there’s no need to feel guilty about having little breaks in-between.

Bond over mealtimes
Eating as a family on holiday can be wonderfully social and exciting when you don’t have to do the washing up! It’s a great idea to find somewhere flexible, depending on how you would like to dine. We can provide private dining areas or party spaces if you are visiting for a special occasion, you may opt for an early supper with little ones in tow, or once the children are sleeping soundly after a fun-filled day, use our baby-listening service so older members can meet at the restaurant to catch-up over delicious cuisine.

Hopefully these tips have inspired you to finally book that well overdue break! The beauty of Bedruthan is you can bring everyone along, finding the time and space to connect with your extended family. Find out more about our group and multi-generational holidays here.
