Q&A with the Bedruthan Childcare Team

By August 9, 2018Families

Going on holiday at a hotel with children can be a daunting, especially when you have unanswered questions. So we asked you what you wanted to know about our childcare here at Bedruthan. Without further ado here are the answers to some of your burning questions:

“Our two-year-old daughter will be using the childcare facilities when we stay with you in September – are we able to go off-site to use the Scarlet spa while she is with the childcare team?”

Parents are welcome to explore both Bedruthan and Scarlet Hotel whilst we look after your child(ren). Just let us know where you will be so that we can keep in touch, but we do advise that you please stay on the Red Hotels site.

“If we bring our son which room would he be in? He’s two and isn’t walking yet, but he is crawling and socially he’s two and a half.”

We combine all of the childcare rooms for lunch (11:30am-1:30pm), but otherwise he would be in the Baby Room, which is suitable for 0-2 years of age.

“What activities do you have for children please?”

We have a variety of activities for children throughout our holiday season from arts and crafts, circus skills, surfing taster sessions, football skills, children’s discos, entertainment and much much more! You can read one of our sample activity programmes here.

“What qualifications do your childcare team have?”

All of our childcare team are DBS checked and we are voluntarily OFSTED registered. The skillset of our team members ranges from teachers to nannies, as well as those that are trained and have qualifications to work with children of all ages.

“We would love to visit your hotel as a family one day. What ages is your childcare suitable for? As I believe my children would be in different clubs.”

We offer childcare clubs for ages 0-2 years old, 3-4 years old, 5-7 years old and 8+ year olds. Unfortunately, children of different ages will need to be in the relevant club. This is similar to school and is to ensure we keep the children safe doing age-specific activities that are suitable for them. We look forward to having you and your family visit us someday!

“I know you provide two hours of free childcare, but I was wondering if it’s possible to leave my child with you for longer?”

Yes, if we have the availability you are more than welcome to leave your child with us for longer. You can buy extra childcare sessions for £20 for under 3s and £10 for two hours for children aged 3-7. If your child is aged 8+ they get a free pass to join our day sessions for as long as they want, and they can come and go as they please between 9.30am and 3.30pm if you wish and with your permission will help to encourage independence.

“What do you have in terms of play areas at your hotel?”

We have an indoor soft play area, an outdoor play area featuring an assault course, a games room and indoor and outdoor children’s pools. Plus the natural playground of our gardens surrounding the hotel, the stunning coastal paths and of course, Mawgan Porth beach!

“Will my little girl be able to have her usual routine whilst with you? I.e. feed and nap time.”

Yes, of course. Our baby room is fully equipped with cots, buggy’s and we have comfy bean bags in all rooms for anyone that needs a sleep or a rest. We also have sterilisers and bottles, as well as ways to ensure all can have their milk and feeds are just as they like it and at specified times. Some parents return to the nursery to breastfeed or will express and leave milk with us to feed their baby. So, just let us know of anything that will help us take care of your little one whilst they are in our care.

“Can I choose the childcare slot time that I would like for my child?”

Yes, you can pick your childcare slot. However, these are subject to availability and based on a first come first served basis that is an additional service that the hotel offers. This does mean that during busier times – such as school holidays – the slots are likely to go quickly. We recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment.

“We’d like to go for an evening meal as a couple, what evening childcare options do you have please?”

Couple time is very important for all and to enable this we have an evening babysitting service. The babysitters must be booked a minimum of two weeks in advance and is for a minimum amount of three hours, which of course can be extended. A babysitter can be booked from 6pm and can finish sometimes as late as after midnight. Alternatively, you can use our baby listening service in your room, so that we can listen out for them whilst having your meal. This is a monitor in your room that links to our reception and enables us to listen into the room. Therefore if you child cries or needs you, then the team would be able to page you from the restaurant or bar to return to your room. Please note that you cannot leave Bedruthan Hotel when opting to use this service.
