Spring/Summer is absolutely our favourite time of year. Being so close to the coast means we get to see the beach come alive in Spring. The sand gets yellower, the sky gets bluer and the grass gets greener with each warm, sunny day that passes. Those bright, vivid hues are exactly the inspiration behind Pantone’s Colour Report for Spring 2017.
“Reminiscent of the hues that surround us in nature, our Spring 2017 Fashion Color Report evokes a spectrum of emotion and feeling…designers applied colour in playful, yet thoughtful and precise combinations to fully capture the promises, hope and transformation that we yearn for each Spring,” said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute.
When the days are getting lighter and the colours are getting brighter, it makes us want to up the contrast on our wardrobe too. Here are just a few of the colours we’ll be wearing this season:
Island Paradise is the ultimate tropical colour. When you dream of the great escape this is the colour that comes to mind and we have it in all shapes and sizes. Our must-have is the American Vintage Bleach Mackmann Jeans, they’re slightly cropped, slightly flared and have an amazing raw edge on the hem, all we need now is a hammock and a cocktail.
Pale Dogwood is a subtle pink shade (not quite what we’re known for) whose soft touch infuses a healthy glow. It’s easy to live with and works well with pretty much any other colour. The Harbour Sunset Flamingo Sweater from LA brand Wildfox is the perfect example, featuring other blue, yellow and black tones, it’s one of those throw on and go pieces that you’ll never get tired of.
Primrose Yellow is our happy colour. With memories of sunny days it just automatically makes us feel all warm inside. We wouldn’t be Roo’s Beach if we didn’t include even a little bit of yellow and the Leona Top from Lolly’s Laundry is it. A warm, yellow, light weight cami with spaghetti straps and an all-over geometric pattern, it’s got a floaty silhouette that is perfect for Summer.
Lapis Blue is a strong and confident hue that gives off heaps of energy. Particularly good on the Blue Jean Colt Runner’s by Rose Rankin, we had the same profile last season in a khaki shade but we love this blue even more! It’s perfect for adding that little pop of colour to any outfit.
Greenery symbolises the flourishing and refreshing nature of Spring. A real tangy colour, you can’t do this one half heartedly. Go all out in the Palm Record Dress by Hartford that is just the epitome of cool. It’s an absolute classic that will look great over jeans in Spring and with bare legs in Summer.
