Badge making at Roo’s Beach
Join Roo’s Beach every day during the October Half Term week to get crafty making colourful badges. In association with beautifully bright Ban.do accessories, cut, colour and create a beautiful badge in the Roo’s Beach shop in Porth near Newquay. Sessions run from 10am – 1pm each day between Saturday 21st and Saturday 31st October, so drop in whenever you like. For grown-ups there is also excellent coffee and the best retail therapy. If any of the Ban.do goodies tickle your fancy they are also giving away lovely tote bags with every purchase.
Halloween themed screenprinting
Our lovely friendly Dena from Kiwi Print Studios is hosting two screen printing workshops during the October half term week. Hands-on halloween-themed workshops to print a tote bag, t-shirt or even a lantern. The first session is on Wednesday 28th October at the Kiwi studio in Redruth, the second is at the Royal Cornwall Museum in Truro on Friday 30th October between 10am – 12:30pm and 1:30pm – 4pm.
The world’s biggest drawing festival: The Big Draw has events happening all over Cornwall throughout October. Most of the activities are free and open to everyone, connecting people of all ages with museums, outdoor spaces, artists, designers and illustrators. This year’s theme is Every Drawing Tells a Story – encouraging drawers to paint a story with their pictures.
Events across Cornwall include:
- Bring alive our Geevor History at Geevor Tin Mine – where the industrial site can inspire you and you can uncover the past through your drawings.
- Cops ‘n’ Robbers at the Cornish Studies Library in Redruth – join the Dandy and Beano cartoonist Nick Brennan to explore the police collections and enormous jail registers!
- Fantastic Flickbooks at Penlee House Gallery – illustrator Cassie Penn will show you how to produce your own flickbook to really bring your drawings to life
- Freak or Unique at National Maritime Museum – marvel at the museum’s Cabinet of Curiosities and make your own Indonesian Red Devil masks
Come to a Halloween Party with a difference at Newquay Zoo on Saturday 31st October. With a trick or treat trail, witches brew, gruesome gruel and a fancy dress carnival – there will be fun to all the family, and a chance to see the animals too, of course.
Spooky Night Walk
On 30th October families will have a rare opportunity to visit Trebah Gardens at night. This year there is a Magical Mexican World theme – the gardens will be errily lit and full of installations and performances. Miracle Theatre and Trifle Gathering will be there to produce an epic evening of ghost hunting with a South American twist. Fancy dress is essential, and don’t forget your torch!
