A lake carries you into recesses of feeling otherwise impenetrable. – William Wordsworth
Lions and tigers, boats, ducks and horse riding, good food, great coffee and a picturesque stroll – Trenance Boating Lake and Leisure Gardens has it all.
Just 10 minutes’ drive from Bedruthan and tucked away under a wooded hillside on the outskirts of the town centre, the lake and gardens are an oasis of picturesque outdoor pleasure.
You can go horse riding at the Trenance Riding Stables (in the lane on the River Gannel side of the gardens), hire a pedal boat or watch the remote control yacht races.
Sit outside the Lakeside restaurant with a good coffee or a glass of wine and listen to the lake lapping. Order some food too – it’s very good.
Lakeside also sells bird food so you can feed the ducks and pigeons and watch the swans get uppity with each other – from a safe distance.
Meander over bridges and along the lakeside paths and remember to make a wish in the wishing well.
Head away from The Gannel under the viaduct and you’ll soon come to Newquay Zoo where you can pay a visit to the wild animals. The sports centre is just next door with its 25 metre pool and fun pool with slides
There’s also a skate park to explore over this side of the gardens, a mini railway, another cafe and crazy golf course too. Trenance maybe manmade and diminutive is size, but it really is a ‘great lake’ when it comes to the picturesque views and fun it affords.
