Mix it up. Shake it up.

By December 18, 2020Things to do

Let’s face it, if 2020 hadn’t happened like it has, we would have probably never have attempted to do half of the new creative things we have. That’s certainly true for me, and I think we all deserve a pat on the back for staying motivated and up for a new challenge.

So, one last challenge awaits. This time it’s amateur mixology. It wouldn’t be Christmas without a few cocktails now would it?  We have so many incredible seasonal, local, and sustainable ingredients at our finger tips to create that dangerously good cocktail or mocktail, making the at-home drink creating experience a uniquely entertaining. So let’s get going, here are few recipes with some of Cornwalls finest producers.

MULLED ORCHARD TODDY

with Tarquin’s British Blackberry Gin, Mulled Cider, Lemon Juice, Apple & Mint. This ones from our wonderful friends to Tarquins Gin (look out for our new Tarquins break … coming soon). It requires a bit of dedication but the results are fabulous!

To batch make your Mulled Cider:

  • 500 ml DRY CIDER
  • CINNAMON STICK
  • 5 whole CLOVES
  • small thumb GINGER (peeled & grated)
  • half tsp NUTMEG (grated)
  • peel 1 CLEMENTINE
  • peel half LEMON

Place all ingredients in a pan & bring to the boil. Then remove from the heat and allow to cool. When completely cooled, strain through a fine cloth.

SERVES 1

To batch make your Mulled Cider:

  • 50 ml TARQUIN’S BLACKBERRY GIN
  • 25 ml FRESH LEMON JUICE
  • 2 bar spoons MAPLE SYRUP
  • 150 ml MULLED CIDER {served piping hot}
  • fresh MINT {for garnish}
  • fresh APPLE SLICE {for garnish}
  • CINNAMON STICK {for garnish}

Add your Blackberry Gin, Lemon Juice and Maple Syrup to a mug. Then add your piping hot mulled cider and stir together well for 20 seconds.

PENTIRE & TONIC

Now we are really excited about this one. We have just discovered Pentire who have created a botanical, non-alcoholic spirit, made from unique plants native to the Cornish coastline. Their philosophy is so close to our own and we just love it.

  • A GLASS FULL OF ICE
  • 50ml of PENTIRE ADRIFT
  • FILL WITH TONIC
  • garnish with LEMON OR ROSEMARY

So simple and perfect for pre-dinner drinks.

COLD & DARK

Much like the winter months! But this one is designed to warm you up and awaken you senses. Now if you haven’y tried Dead Man’s Fingers selection of Rums, we would certainly recommend it. Served on their own is good enough but mix it up and try their Cold & Dark.

  • 50ml DEAD MANS FINGERS COFFEE RUM
  • 60ml CHILLED ESPRESSO
  • 1 spoon of HONEY

Shake, strain and garnish with coffee beans. Delicious!

Ok, so now it’s your turn. Mix it up, shake your stuff at home and share your moments on social #bedruthanhotel and we’ll share the best ones.
