We were so touched by this story – we had to add it to our list of runner’s up for the Bedruthan Stories competition. Here are some of the memories of parent’s to twins, who have found some much needed relaxation at Bedruthan.
The first time we walked into the Bedruthan hotel is still so clear in my mind. It was February 14th 2015. The previous Valentines Day we had stayed at The Scarlet but this year we had Zoe and Eli with us; our 5 month old twins. It hadn’t been an easy 5 months, the first 3 had been spent in hospital and the following 2 months a haze of night feeds and nappy changes. Needless to say we were exhausted and only living an hour away we decided to get out of the house and go to the Bedruthan Hotel albeit only for a drink before coming home again.
The moment we walked through the door an overwhelming feeling of relief and relaxation washed over me and it instantly became my “happy place”. Without a doubt we would have stayed there and then if we were able to. Instead, we did the next best thing; we spoke to reception about the baby break. 4 weeks and 2 days later we were due to return for our first family holiday. The countdown began! I couldn’t wait to go back for 3 whole nights.
Our stay didn’t disappoint; being together as a family at the Bedruthan Hotel was amazing. We walked on the beach, swam in the pool and ate in the restaurant. We only used one childcare session. We were a bit nervous – we needn’t have been, the nursery staff were amazing. We kicked back in the spa and wondered what to do with ourselves? After our 3 nights we left knowing that we would return. The mistake we made on that first stay was not booking our return.
Time passes fast and Christmas 2015 came, as did a whole lot of family. As they all left on the 27th December I knew where we needed to go to for some R&R. I also knew that the chances of us being able to go 3 days later for New Year were next to zero. I had to try though. As I expected there was no space but I vowed that the following year we would be there.
New Year wasn’t our next visit, there were several more day trips in between and the odd nights stay but New Year was fantastic and the perfect antidote to a busy Christmas. We relaxed, we ate, we drank and we danced. At just over 2 the twins loved the nursery, the disco, the food, Jungle Tumble, the pool and especially the giraffes! As for the adults the New Years Day lie in was the perfect start to 2017 and before we left the next day we had our names down for this year’s break.
Our Bedruthan story is still in its infancy. There will be many more stays and visits. It’s the perfect place to be together, make memories and recharge. Every time we go through the doors I’m reminded of that feeling the very first time and I love it.
