A guest’s journey on our Sunday Hideout break

By January 15, 2019Things to do

Our Sunday Hideout is a one-night break to extend your weekend with use of our indoor spa, Sunday lunch, a cracking Cornish breakfast and a luxuriously late checkout to start your Monday the right way. Here’s a lovely blog from one of our guests who recently stayed with us on this special offer and had an experience worth writing about:

12:30pm: It was a beautiful sunny day when my best friend and I arrived at the hotel for some quality time together and R&R. We headed into the sea view restaurant, the Wild Cafe, and were seated in Atlantic View. We ordered our Sunday Lunch and watched the waves roll in whilst we waited. The potatoes and vegetables came out on sharing platters with our vegetarian and non-veggie mains on separate plates. Separate gravy was a nice touch! Bedruthan are great at catering for different dietary requirements (just let them know when you book) and we both really enjoyed our roasts. Then the delicious desserts came out, a sharing board including two lots of bread and butter pudding, chocolate brownie and ginger cake, all topped off with a dollop of cream. It’s safe to say we were full and content after that amazing feast. The menu changes depending on the seasons, but you can view a sample menu here.

14:30pm: Once we had finished up in the Wild Cafe we headed over to the reception desk where we were able to check-in early as our room was ready early (check-in is normally 3:30pm). The lady at reception was very friendly and helpful and provided us with a handy pocket guide to Bedruthan and our key cards. We were in a stunning sea view family room, which was more than enough space for the two of us. After figuring out which bed we wanted and a little bit of unpacking we decided to find somewhere to relax.

15:00pm: We noticed the Tranquility Suite as we entered the hotel earlier in the day. It’s a beautiful room where we did a spot of reading by the fireplace. Then we ventured outside onto the balcony to watch the sunset. It was a clear autumn day, so the views were spectacular. Next door is the bar, a grown-ups only space, which serves some tasty treats and drinks. I ordered a pot of tea and my friend treated herself to a gingerbread latte, which includes syrup made by one of the Bedruthan staff members! Once we’d finished our drinks we decided to get changed into our swimming costumes and head over to the spa.

17:00pm: Bedruthan’s spa has everything you need and more to help you find your calm. We started by lounging in the relaxation area with a nice cup of complimentary herbal tea and having a read of the magazines. Then we took a dip in the sea view hydropool and couldn’t resist pushing the buttons on the wall to activate the bubbles. Once our muscles were all relaxed from the jets, we moved onto the caldarium, steam room and sauna, which I’m a big fan of. I love how they clear my sinuses and give my body a good detox. After a shower and a glass of cold water, we moved across the hall to the swimming pool to get a few lazy lengths in. We didn’t get very far and ended up lounging with our books once again.

19:00pm: Once we had dried off and changed, we decided to go explore Mawgan Porth. Although dinner isn’t included in this particular break, you can book into the Wild Cafe or the Herring restaurant to dine in the comfort of the hotel if you wish. We came across the Merrymoor Inn, a bed and breakfast, which serves great pub style food. After enjoying a delicious meal of a margarita pizza and a vegetarian hot dog, we went and sat on the benches at the entrance to Mawgan Porth beach for a while to appreciate the soothing sounds of the sea, before heading back up to Bedruthan.

21:00pm: We spent the rest of the evening lounging around in the many spaces throughout the hotel, including the ballroom and the tranquillity suite again, taking this time to relax, read and have a catch-up. Then we headed back to our room for some more lounging and chatting before finally hitting the hay in our comfy twin beds.

8:30am: In the morning we rose from our cosy beds and wandered down to the Wild Cafe for breakfast.  You can’t beat the cracking Cornish breakfast at Bedruthan, it is a morning feast fit for a king or queen! They go all out with plenty of cereals, continental breakfast, full English breakfast, juices, baked goods, specials, tea, coffee and much more. It’s safe to say that we started our morning off right and couldn’t wait to spend more time in this wonderful hotel.

9:30am: We found ourselves back in the spa for some more relaxation time and to admire the view of Mawgan Porth beach. A great bonus that comes with a late checkout. We then made use of the showers and Oula products that are provided in the spa before going back up to our room. We got changed and packed up before checking out shortly before 13:00pm. Thank you Bedruthan for blissful stay, which certainly left us wanting more!
