We created this weekend break to relax, rejuvenate and reinvigorate our guests, while offering them something different from a standard yoga or Pilates break.
Bedruthan’s cliff top yoga and Pilates experience offers a yoga-inspired menu of light and healthy Cornish food and a chance to try Quantum Yoga, a highly modern take on the ancient discipline - all against the stunning backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean.
Guests are welcomed with a gentle session of yoga to help them recover from their journey and a chance to meet their fellow guests as well as Amy, Bedruthan’s yoga and Pilates teacher. Over herbal tea and healthy cakes, Amy will encourage guests to discuss their personal goals for their practice over the weekend, which includes four 90-minute sessions of Pilates, Quantum Yoga or Pilates/Yoga Fusion.
March 16th - 18th (Mother's Day), July: 6th - 8th & November 9th - 11th
What is Quantum Yoga?
Quantum Yoga centres on the belief that any practice done with a higher level of consciousness and a clear healing intention carries greater transformative potential. As Quantum Yoga is all about creating the ideal, already you are starting out with greater awareness. It is a listening practice.
Quantum Yoga prescribes specific Hatha yoga asanas and sequences to rebalance the mind and body, and is generally regarded as the most effective style of yoga for boosting health and fitness, engaging life force and stabilising emotions.
Amy draws on the principles of Ayurveda (traditional Indian homeopathy) to assess each student’s physical, mental and emotional needs and advise variations to postures and sequences that will most benefit each individual student on that particular day.
“Often we feel least like doing the very thing that would be best for us,” says Amy. “The idea of doing a vigorous practice might not appeal, yet it could well be what is most beneficial.”
About Amy
Amy discovered Pilates 15 years ago while studying classical ballet and contemporary dance. After her initial training with Body Control Pilates in 2004, she went on to teach at the Body Control Pilates Studio.
She has since qualified in both Matwork Master and Studio Master advanced certifications and is a senior teacher with the BCP Studio and BCPA Teacher Training team. She trained to teach Quantum Yoga (with Yoga Alliance), a prescriptive form of yoga that enables both the teacher and practitioner to create the ultimate personalised practice using the Ayurvedic principles of the doshas.
Although yoga and Pilates can be defined very differently, there are many similarities and a natural fusion of the disciplines is evolving in her teaching.
She said: “I have an intuitive approach to movement, paying particular attention to helping clients to achieve a greater sense of awareness and proprioception (our ability to register the body's positioning), thus enabling them to reach their physical fitness goals more efficiently and effectively.”
